All people living with type 1 diabetes require insulin, compared to only some people with type 2 diabetes that need it. Proper injection technique of insulin is important to make sure that you receive the right amount of insulin for your body.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are two different types of insulin that you can use, both slow and rapid acting insulin. Please consult your doctor, pharmacist and diabetes educator to learn more about the medication(s) that has been prescribed for you.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are many different sizes of needles that you can use for your insulin pen, please use the shortest available for a comfortable experience. Size 4 mM are the most recommended by your healthcare professionals. Each needle should be used only once!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;Step 1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_divider _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Step 1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Injection technique 101 <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>STEP 1: Preparation<\/i> <\/span><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li2\">\n<h3><span class=\"s4\">Wash your hands for the injection process<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\">\n<h3><span class=\"s4\">Prepare your supplies: insulin, pens and needles. If your pen is not preloaded, load the insulin cartridge into the pen. <\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\">\n<h3><span class=\"s4\">Mix your insulin if it\u2019s cloudy! You should notice a stream of insulin coming out of your pen at this step.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">* If you notice no stream, repeat this step! <\/span><\/h3>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;Step 1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Step 3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>STEP 3: Giving your injection <\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li2\">\n<h3><span class=\"s3\">Dial up the insulin dose that you will need for your injection.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\">\n<h3><span class=\"s3\">Insert the needle into the skin at a 90\u00ba angle and press down on the plunger until the dial reaches 0. <\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\">\n<h3><span class=\"s3\">Count 10 seconds before removing the needle from your skin to make sure that you receive the full dose. <\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;Step 1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Step 4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">STEP 4: Proper disposal <\/span><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li2\">\n<h3><span class=\"s3\">Remove needle and dispose into sharp container <\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243; \/][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;Step 1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Injection Sites&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.21.1&#8243; z_index_tablet=&#8221;500&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Injection sites:<\/strong> <\/span><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li2\">\n<h3><span class=\"s3\">It is very important to change the place where you give yourself insulin at every injection<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">\n<h3><span class=\"s1\">Injecting insulin into the same spot repeatedly can cause a lump or hard spot to develop under the skin<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">\n<h3><span class=\"s1\">This spot will prevent you from absorbing insulin properly<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">\n<h3><span class=\"s1\">To avoid this, change your injection spot each day for each injection insulin <\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">\n<h3><span class=\"s1\">Keep track of where you have injected, so you don\u2019t use the same spot again for a while<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">All these steps are important for taking good care of your diabetes and your overall health!<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You\u2019re not alone when it comes to taking care of your diabetes.
