It has been many years (3 decades) since I was diagnosed. When I was diagnosed, I did not know about the complications.

Why did you decide to come to LMC?
My family physician referred me.

What has LMC taught you about diabetes?
I have learned a lot from LMC. When I found that I had diabetes, I began studying in books and the internet. The educators provided pamphlets and information and this increased my knowledge.

Has your perspective of diabetes changed since starting at LMC?
Yes. I know that it cannot be cured 100%, but I know now that it can be controlled. I learned that I have to live with this, but if it is under controlled, there are not many problems.

Has coming to LMC changed your perspective on life as a whole?
My life has improved in a positive way. I have hope that my disease will be under control, this is my aim. LMC has helped me with this aim.

How has your health changed since before – and after -- you were referred to LMC?
My health is significantly improved. My blood sugar is under control.

What was the biggest obstacle you felt you had to overcome with your diabetes management? How did LMC support you in this process?
The most difficult part is to face that I have diabetes – I needed to realize that this is now part of my life. I was a sports person and was active all my life; I was concerned at the beginning when I needed to check my blood sugars and take my insulin. But I learned and accepted that this is required, even if it is not easy.

Describe the moment when you realized you were effectively managing your diabetes – how did LMC come into play in that moment?
This happened many times. I came to LMC a couple of years ago; but then I discontinued because I was going to move. I mentioned to Dr Schlosser that I would not be returning. But then I came back even though I was out of town. As I started to come to the visits, the doctors took good care of me. My diabetes was under control because of this.

Do you think more people living with diabetes should come to LMC? Why?
Yes. I would recommend that. I would say my family doctor is a very good doctor; he controlled my diabetes very well, but he still suggested I see an endocrinologist to help me more. He referred me to LMC and I found that LMC did help me.

What do you like most about your experiences at LMC?
I really liked the doctors, they are very knowledgeable and they know what they are doing. Professionally the educator helped me a lot and is very nice.

When you think of LMC, what words come to mind?
Helpful. Education. Patients are being helped tremendously. I can read anything on the internet, but there is a difference between physically going to the clinic and speaking with the professionals and reading online; sometimes it is more helpful to speak with the professional face to face. It makes a difference.

What would you say to someone who feels that their diabetes is controlling their life?
If you are able to control your diabetes; with medications or other sources, then the diabetes does not need to control your health.

Has coming to LMC improved your daily management of diabetes? How?
I have studied a lot about diabetes; coming to LMC has improved so many things in my life. For instance; I was doing exercise every day. My job was physical and so I felt that I should not go for any extra exercise. But, I learned that working hard and doing physical exercise are different things. So, I began to do both. I have been working hard and working out. This has helped.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

["post-6570","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
