Diabetes restricts the blood from travelling through the smalls blood vessels in our feet. This can cause difficulty for\u00a0even the smallest\u00a0of cuts to heal, and can potentially lead to infection.\u00a0Our nerves and sensation can also be affected which may cause symptoms such as, numbness and tingling to arise. Routine foot care should be an essential part of managing your condition.\u00a0According to the International Diabetes Federation, seeing your chiropodist at least once a year reduces your risk of amputation by 85%. It is not too late to book a diabetes foot risk assessment with a chiropodist near you!<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4>Keeping you feet healthy, especially during this time, is imperative for your overall health. Inspect your feet daily<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Check your feet and toes every day for cuts, bruises, or sores<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Check for changes to the toenails (i.e. thickening and discolouration)<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>2. Exercise<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Walking can help with weight management and improving circulation<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Helps to maintain blood sugar levels within ideal range<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>3. Have new shoes properly measured and fitted<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Foot size and shape may change over time<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>4. Do not go barefoot<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Do not go without shoes, even in the home<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Inspect shoes for foreign objects, animal hair, pebbles, etc., prior to putting them on<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>5. Wear seamless soft socks<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Avoid socks with seams that may rub and cause blisters or other skin injuries<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>White socks are best<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>6. Never remove corns, callouses or warts by yourself<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Over the counter products can burn the skin and cause irreversible damage to the foot for people living with diabetes<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Moisturize your feet \u2013 apply cream to the top and bottom of the feet, not between the toes<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Do not soak your feet<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>7.
